Nowadays, Altamira can't be visited, so, considering that it is important to include a real cave in these cultural itineraries, I propose El Castillo Cave in Puente Viesgo. This is a half-day excursión, also in the aftenoon.
The cave was discovered in 1903 and it has been studied since that moment. A long and complete stratigraphic sequence for the history of Humankind. Also very important are its animal figures, the long panels of red dots and the hand series.
El Castillo Cave has been declared World Heritage.

MONTE CASTILLO MUSEUM
The cave is located in the Monte Castillo mountain, a very special place where other caves can be visited: Las Monedas, Las Chimeneas and La Pasiega. This last cave has given a new cronology for certain paintings. These discoveries have opened a new discussion among the archaeologists.
